Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Artist-In-Residence | |||||||||||||
| From June 1225, 2005 I had the privilege of serving as Artist-in-Residence at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Northwest lower Michigan. I'd like to thank the Glen Arbor Art Association for selecting me to participate in this program and for their encouragement and hospitality during my stay.
Although I have visited this area many times over the years as both a vacationer and as an artist looking for inspiration, It was a great pleasure to have a prolonged stay where creating art was the sole objective. My familiarity with the park was a concern that dissolved into a blessing. I was concerned that I would not be able to look at the park with "new eyes" the fresh approach that stimulates the creative spirit. As it turned out, there is such diversity within the National Lakeshore combined with the ever changing weather and light that I didn't need to worry about creative stimulus. And I soon realized that my knowledge of the park gave me an edge in seeking out the right places at the right time (e.g. Storm over Sleeping Bear Bay). Below is a link to the index page for a few of my Sleeping Bear images and as you will see, there is much more to capture at Sleeping Bear than the dunes. Some of the old barns and farmhouses were particularly intriguing. Please take a look and let me know what you think. |
